Peace for the City™ is a coalition of Metropolitan Baltimore
Congregations who have been busy rebuilding the spiritual wall around the great
city of Baltimore, Maryland USA. What God has begun to do in their midst
is truly awesome -- but it is just the beginning! The following is a
summary of the key events of this coalition's efforts. Check back
frequently for updates to this list.
February 1998
This month marks the first gathering of the "Peace for the City
Pastors." What makes this gathering unique in itself is that the
pastors are from many different denominational backgrounds and
affiliations. The pastors came together to humble themselves, seek His
face and pray for His church and Baltimore City. The
spiritual leaders of Baltimore have realized that God is Calling for Unity in
the body of Christ for there can only be one bride "on that day"
and that "Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand
guard in vain." Psalm 127:1 (NIV).
April 1998
With unity established amongst the pastors, the "Peace for the City
Churches" united in a citywide Prayer Proclamation during which time the
entire City of Baltimore was claimed for the Kingdom of God. This event
was more than prayer from within the walls of the Church. God's warriors
went out from behind the walls and into enemy territory to "claim
turf" by driving physical stakes into the ground at key entrances to the
city. This event was broadcast live by a local radio station affording
anyone with ears to follow the activities.
February 1999
After the first formal gathering of pastors a year ago, many continued to
come together informally for breakfast, fellowship and much prayer on their
faces before God. Bonds were developed over the past year between pastors
of different denominational backgrounds that would have been unheard of ten
years ago. At this second formal gathering of pastors, more than fifty
(50) pastors signed a
covenant of cooperation
with each other. True bonds of interdependence were initiated tearing down
old ethnic, racial and denominational barriers that have been hindering God's
perfect plan for His church. Woe to us as we get on our faces before God
and repent for our sins!
April 1999
This month marks the beginning of a 365 day period of prayer for the cities
of Baltimore, Maryland and Washington DC, the nation's capital. These
prayers are broadcast via local radio stations every day at two minutes before
noon, Eastern Standard Time (EST). The prayers were professionally
pre-recorded and compiled during the February 1999 pastor's gathering.
May 1999
As a result of developing close bonds with other pastors in their local area,
the insecurities of pastors began to disappear. A new and refreshing trust
among the pastors developed that enabled the first citywide Pulpit
Exchange. Once again, more than fifty (50) shattered denominational,
racial and ethnic barriers by preaching God's message in the Sunday morning
service from their newfound brother's and sister's pulpits. From within a
denomination, this is fairly common amongst evangelists. However, across
denominational boundaries where beliefs sometimes get in the way of us sharing
God's love, this would have been impossible ten years ago! God is truly an
awesome God!
November 1999
As a result of the extraordinary events that have occurred since the first
gathering of pastors in February 1998, nationwide and worldwide attention has
been directed towards Baltimore. The Baltimore
Pastor's Covenant has been widely distributed and is now being used in many
cities throughout the world with equally awesome results. The
American
Bible Society recognizes the significance of these events in Baltimore and
has printed a special edition of the Contemporary English Version of the Holy
Bible, one of the newer translations released in 1995. On the inside cover of this Bible, the
text of the Baltimore Pastor's Covenant is printed for all to read.
February 2000
With the continued and growing anointing that is being poured out over
Baltimore, the pastors of the city came together for the third consecutive year
in what has now become the annual "Pastor's Retreat" as part of the
Peace for the City movement. Attendance continues to grow by local pastors
and the event was once again covered by a local radio station. New prayers
were recorded for transmission on local radio stations during the new
millennium.
